Reyna Preciado

KGUN 9

Reporter

Reyna Preciado is our Southside/ South Tucson reporter. She was born and raised in Phoenix, specifically in the small community of Maryvale. The area has a reputation of being known for crime and poverty, but Reyna sees beyond that.

She graduated from ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism in May 2022. In her college experience, she interned with the Phoenix NPR affiliate KJZZ. During this internship, she focused on bringing positive coverage of the Maryvale community to the news platform.

Maryvale is a one-square-mile community, similar to the one-square-mile city of South Tucson. When Reyna started at KGUN 9 in July 2022, she brought her passion for changing the narrative in communities with bad reputations. She hoped to accomplish this in Tucson by highlighting the changemakers, the resilience, and the beauty of the community. She became the Southside/ South Tucson reporter in August 2023.

While her passion has introduced her to stories full of light, she's also found what's been left in the dark. From holding city leaders accountable to giving a voice to vulnerable communities, she investigates both sides with empathy and compassion.
