KGUN 9

Good Morning Tucson, Executive Producer

Sean Newgent was born in Peoria, Illinois; a town best known for the moldy cantaloupe that inspired the scientists who invented penicillin. From there he lived in Tampa, Florida for many years; a city best known for being featured on 9 out of 10 episodes of Cops. He then went back to Illinois and lived in Normal, Illinois and graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in broadcast journalism.

While at ISU, Sean wrote movie reviews for the paper, anchored and produced student newscasts, and was nominated for a student Emmy for broadcast film reviews that included a minute-and-a-half deep-dive on why Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is actually amazing. He should probably be much prouder of his year working for NPR as a digital content intern and occasional on-air personality.

Sean has been with KGUN 9 since January of 2020 producing newscasts. He has also written a number of semi-professional anime reviews and deep dives from the perspective of someone who watches way too much anime. Despite the exorbitant amount of anime he has watched, Sean can only speak ten words of Japanese: half of which are food related, the other half of which are also food related.

Sean also reviews movies, TV, video games, comics, and books for KGUN9.
