Low snow, hard freeze, and more winter weather possible for New Year's Eve

and last updated

Light snow is falling in the Sierra Vista area with up to an inch more possible this evening.

The system that impacted our area Thursday night has moved to the east, but has remained close enough to bring areas of southern Cochise county and east Santa Cruz county 1-2 inches of snow.

Additional snow this evening in that area should be less than an inch as the low pressure system moves south of our area across the border.

Temperatures will drop below freezing again tonight. So remember to protect those plants, pipes, and pets! There is a freeze warning in effect from midnight to 9 a.m.

Our attention than turns to another cold system that could bring us low snow again! This time on New Year's Eve. Snow levels will start around 4,000 feet before dropping to 3,000 after midnight.

Areas between 3,000-4,000 feet could get 1 inch of snow. 4,000-5,000 could get 1-3 inches of snow. 5,000-7,000 could get around 3-5 inches of snow, and above 7,000 feet could get 7-14 inches.

There is potential some snow flakes could mix in with the rain below 3,000 feet including in the Tucson Metro Area.

Happy New Year!
