TUCSON, Ariz — Tucson's Alex Bowman didn't repeat as Daytona 500 pole winner, but he did the next best thing.

The 25 year-old Bowman will start 2nd in Sunday's Great American Race next to his teammate, 21 year-old William Byron. It's the youngest starting front row in the race's history.

"I'm like the old guy," joked Bowman. "Having Hendrick Motorsports take the top four spots is really neat. Hopefully, we can finish that way."

Bowman made last year's Chase for the Championship but is still looking for his first win in Nascar's highest level. Byron and teammate Jimmie Johnson were also winlesss, while Chase Elliott found victory lane three times in the second half of the season.

"We've come close to a win but it hasn't happened yet. Looking at what Chase did at the end of last year was encouraging."
