TUCSON, Ariz — Mike Candrea's Arizona Wildcat softball team may not be the Pac-12 team suffering from the new NCAA transfer rules, but the conference he plays in very much is.

"The whole transfer situation is really a delicate topic to me," said Candrea.

The change is that players no longer need to seek permission to transfer. They can enter something called the transfer portal, which allows contact with other schools.

"To me, it's a little like free agency,"

Seven Oregon players have transferred following coach Mike White leaving the school for Texas. And while this is going on in other sports as well, softball is more affected due to the academic calandar. A player can be with a team during the fall, and in some cases be with another in the spring.

"In the middle of the fall, in the middle of the year, it's devastating to me because you don't have a chance to recuperate it.
I don't like it. I'm just glad it didn't happen to anyone at Arizona."
