TUCSON, Arizona — It's New York, New York, for UArizona Baseball. One day after the Yankees selected catcher Austin Wells in the first round in the Major League Baseball draft, the Mets take utility player Matthew Dyer in the fourth round.
Dyer hit .393 with 46 runs scored as a sophomore last year. He has played eight different positions, including catcher.
"He is as versatile of a player as any team could hope for," said Wildcats head coach Jay Johnson. "The Mets organization will be better for drafting Matthew."
Wells and Dyer give Arizona multiple draft selections for the 10th consecutive season. This year, the draft was reduced from 40 to five rounds.
