TUCSON, Ariz — Dallas Cowboy fans know DeMarco Murray as the one-time NFL rushing leader, but now Arizona Wildcat fans know Murray as their first year running backs coach.
"I've always known I've wanted to get into coaching," said Murray after practice on Wednesday night. "The opportunity to work with Coach Sumlin, I've known him since I was 18 years old. It was a blessing to get a phone call from him."
Arizona coach Kevin Sumlin once recruited Murray to Oklahoma. Now, it's Murray doing the recruiting. Among the cities he concentrates on are Las Vegas and Phoenix.
"It's all about the kids, and being able to work with them on a daily basis. I'm letting them know that football is why you are here, but academically, that's key. That's more important than running touchdowns."
Murray takes over a group that led the Pac-12 in rushing last season, led by junior J.J. Taylor.
