TUCSON, Arizona — Following a special meeting on Wednesday, the Arizona Interscholastic Association updated its plans for fall athletics.

High school competition is now slated to begin the second week of September. That means that high school football games would begin on September 11th. Other sports would also begin that week, except for golf, which can start earlier.

This assumes that schools will reopen to students on August 17th. High school football was slated to start on August 21st, although that has been pushed back.

The AIA also says that if a school determines that it cannot operate a fall sports season due to the pandemic, the AIA will respect that decision.
