TUCSON, Ariz. -- A 46-year-old man has died after a crash early Sunday morning on Tucson's westside.

Tucson Police say officers were called to the area near Speedway and I-10 around 1:45 a.m. Sunday for a serious-injury crash involving one vehicle. Tucson Fire was also called to the scene. The driver, Jesus Francisco Limon, was taken to Banner UMC with life-threatening injuries.

During the preliminary investigation, detectives spoke to witnesses and collected evidence. TPD says it was determined the driver was traveling southbound on the I-10 frontage road at a high rate of speed. Officials say as Limon reached the intersection at Speedway, he lost control of his vehicle and hit a traffic signal pole head-on.

Officers on scene and at the hospital observed signs and symptoms of possible alcohol impairment. A DUI Officer responded to the hospital and conducted a parallel DUI investigation.

Limon was pronounced dead several hours after the crash at the hospital.

TPD says he was not wearing a seatbelt.
