TUCSON, Ariz — The expansion Tucson Sugar Skulls are IFL playoff bound in their inaugural season after defeating Quad City, 55-50, in the regular season finale.

Matt Behrendt started at quarterback as Jake Medlock has turf-toe, and the Skulls took over the game in the third quarter by scoring 21 consecutive points.

"It feels good.," said head coach Marcus Coleman. "I'm more excited for the guys. They worked their tails off. They showed tonight that they wanted it."

The game was marred by a play during the third quarter in which two Quad City players collided. Kewan Alfred had to be carted off the field on a stretcher and was taken to a local hospital. He was conscious, and there is optimism regarding his condition. Additionally, two of Tucson's best defensive players, Keith Jones and Zach Allen, left the game with injuries and did not return.

The Skulls will visit Sioux City Sunday at 1 in the first round of the IFL playoffs.
