TUCSON, Ariz. — In their inaugural season, the Tucson Sugar Skulls have already become leaders in the community. Nearly a dozen players stopped at Diamond Childrens Medical Center on Tuesday to help put smiles on kids faces.

The Sugar Skulls also have a leader on the defensive line in Robert Metz.

A standout at Canyon del Oro High School, Metz played college football at Division II Dixie State University.

After he earned All-IFL Honors playing linebacker for the Green Bay Blizzard, he learned his hometown was getting an Indoor Football League team.

"It's been awesome," said Metz. "Ever since I found out a team was starting in Tucson, it just felt great. I get to stay at home, stay with my friends and family."

Metz has made the move from linebacker to defensive end with the Sugar Skulls.

He has also provided experience to a defense filled with first year players.

"Definitely good to have somebody that already understands that, and then helps some of the younger guys along," said Sugar Skulls Head Coach Marcus Coleman.

Tucson holds down the 6th and final playoff spot with 4 games remaining. The Sugar Skulls travel to Bismark Saturday.
