TUCSON, Ariz — Approximately 25 women tried out for 15 spots on the Tucson Sugar Skulls dance team at the Desert Diamond Casino Hotel on Sunday.
"The dance team is so important, " said captain Brooke Beckler, who was among the judges. "We bring the energy, the entertainment, the pretty girls. It's what everyone wants to see. We will bring excitement to the whole game."
The Sugar Skulls are the new Indoor Football League team that will begin play at the Tucson Arena this March. Among those who made the team is Lexi, who will attend the University of Arizona next semester.
"That would just be an amazing opportunity," said Lexi, before knowing she made the squad. "I've been dancing every since I was a little girl. I've always wanted to dance for a major team. That would be awesome."
The dance team will perform on gamedays and attend communtiy events.
