Salpointe Catholic's girls volleyball team will try to win its second consecutive state championship on Thursday when it takes on Peoria Sunrise Mountain in the Class 4A state finals in Phoenix.
"It's a really exciting opportunity and we're ready for it," said senior Peyton Lewis.
"It would mean a lot to repeat," said head coach Heather Moore-Martin. "They've earned it."
The third-seeded Lancers advanced to the final by upsetting No. 2 Glendale Cactus 3-1 (25-16, 21-15, 27-17, 25-22) in Tuesday's semifinals. They are led by Allana Duarte's 306 kills.
The Lancers will try and make history for the second straight season. Salpointe won its first-ever state crown a year ago, beating Phoenix Mountain Pointe.
