TUCSON, Arizona — Pima College was supposed to return to competition this week for the first time since last March, but it has canceled its basketball games due to what it says is an abundance of caution regarding COVID-19.
The Aztecs were scheduled to host Cochise in men's and women's basketball on Tuesday, and visit Central Arizona on Thursday.
“Our student athletes are deeply disappointed at the decision,” said Athletics Director Jim Monaco. “However, Pima will always prioritize the safety of students and has prioritized healthy and safety since the beginning of the pandemic.”
The College says it made the decision because of the high number of COVID-19 cases in Pima County and in Arizona, based on metrics from Pima County and the American Interscholastic Association.
