TUCSON, Ariz. - A high school basketball referee was fired following complaints that he made an inappropriate comment with racist overtones at a game.

Tucson Unified School District Ahletics Director Herman House released this statement:

"I was notified by Pueblo High School Athletic Director on Wednesday morning that a basketball official made an inappropriate and slanderous remark ('Do your players have their green cards?') to the Freshmen coach of Pueblo High School. I contacted the Arizona Interscholastic Association's Commissioner Officials, the AIA Executive Director and the AIA Area Commissioner regarding the alleged comment. I was notified that afternoon by the AIA Area Commissioner that the official had been relieved of his duties. I do not have any further information regarding this matter. Tucson Unified School District will continue to investigate and we strongly condemn any comments that have no place in an educational setting."
