TUCSON, Ariz. - Georgetown point guard James Akinjo announced that he will become an Arizona Wildcat.

In an Instagram post, he wrote "Happy New Year ... I'm 1000 percent committed. Turn me up."

Akinjo, a 6-1, 185-pound sophomore guard from Oakland, Calif., averaged 13.4 points over 40 games in two seasons for the Hoyas.

This season, Akinjo averaged 6 points, two steals and five rebounds over seven games.

Under NCAA rules, Akinjo must sit out a season before he's eligible to play for the Wildcats. Barring a waiver granted by the NCAA, that means he will likely miss the first several games of the 2020-21 season.
