TUCSON, Arizona — Former Wildcat Bobby Dalbec was at the Red Sox minor league facility in Rhode Island on Sunday morning when he got the call that every baseball player dreams of, the call up to the Major Leagues.
Dalbec made the sixty mile drive to Fenway Park, and arrived to find himself in the lineup playing first base. After striking out in his first at bat, Dalbec delivered a home run to right over what's referred to Pesky's Pole.
"I kind of saw it go over the pole, so I was kind of hoping it would stay fair. I felt pretty weightless out there, honestly. It was kind of surreal. Everything happened so fast. "
Dalbec’s new teammates came out to congratulate him. He says he’ll send his first home run ball to his parents for the sacrifices they made for him.
"It means a lot. I think about the tough times, the Minor Leagues, college, all that stuff. Everything has kind of led to this moment."
Dalbec joins a lineup that includes former Sahuaro high school star Alex Verdugo.
