TUCSON, Ariz — Dennis Bene spent nineteen seasons as Salpointe football coach. Todd Schulte only spent one month in that role.

Schulte stepped down after having a change of heart, and the Lancers named Eric Rogers as their new head coach.

"This is something that I wanted very badly," said Rogers, who initially wasn't chosen for the job. "When you're not the guy selected, you get back to work."

Rogers was most recently an assistant coach for the Lancers, and was going to stay on the staff.

"I wasn't going anywhere," said Rogers. "I was going to keep coaching. When the opportunity presented itself, I was all in, and ready to rock and roll."

Rogers is a CDO high school graduate who played college football for the Connecticut Huskies. He played linebacker, and was team captain. He was also an assistant coach under Jim Monaco at Pima College.
