Empire Softball remembers Jimmy Brink

VAIL, Arizona — Empire High School, and the softball community, came together on Saturday to remember longtime softball parent Jimmy Brink.

Brink lost his battle with cancer earlier this year. Twelve teams took part in a softball tournament in which games were played on two fields.

"This means so much to me," said Jessica Brink, one of Jimmy's daughters. "Our family was affected by cancer. It's great that the community can come together in support of someone else who is fighting cancer. It's so nice to see all the support of our softball community coming out and having a good time, and raising some money for a good cause."

Numerous volunteers included the game's umpires. Proceeds from the event are going to two senior scholarships, as well as to Frankie Castaneda, a former Salpointe baseball player who continues to battle brain cancer.
