Youth baseball players in Douglas now have a refurbished facility when they lace up their cleats to take the field.
On Tuesday, the Diamondbacks and APS partnered to dedicate Erubiel Durazo Field. It's located at Airport Park at E. Geronimo Trail.
On hand for the ceremony were the team's former first baseman along with Dbacks president Derrick Hall. Durazo, from nearby Sonora, Mexico, hit 94 career home runs in the Major Leagues.
Among the amenities are a new scoreboard, fencing, windscreen, lighting system, and other fixtures. The LED lights will save more than $6,000 per year in energy and maintenance costs compared to traditional lighting.
The Arizona Diamondbacks foundation has built or refurbished 40 baseball or softball fields since 2000.
