TUCSON, Ariz. — The pandemic is playing havoc on this week's slate of high school football games.

At least four games scheduled for Friday, Nov. 13 have been canceled.

According to a Tucson Unified School District spokeswoman, Nogales called off its game against Tucson High, and not enough students are available to play in the Catalina-Rincon game, forcing its cancellation.

According to the spokeswoman:

Due to a lack of time to properly prepare the athletes for a football season, Catalina will sit this week out to ensure the health and safety of their athletes is not compromised.

The reasoning is not COVID-related, nor does Catalina have intentions to forfeit their season.

A Sunnyside Unified School District spokeswoman said the Sunnyside-Desert View game had been canceled.

A Vail School District spokeswoman said a Cienega High School football player tested positive, causing the team to quarantine and cancel the game against Phoenix Cesar Chavez.
