TUCSON, Ariz — It is a prestigious award that has eluded high school football in southern Arizona, but Salpointe running back Bijan Robinson is the 2019 Gatorade Arizona Football Player of the Year.
Robinson led the Lancers to the semifinals of the AIA's Open Division by rushing for 38 touchdowns and 2,235 yards. He finished his career as the state's all-time rushing touchdowns leader.
Robinson is the first southern Arizona player to win the award since Sabino's Gyndon Bolasky won it in 2005. The award combines athletic excellence, academic achievement, and character.
Robinson is headed to play for the University of Texas next year.
