TUCSON, Ariz — WBC super featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt (36-1, 32 KOs) defeated former WBC 135 pound champion Francisco Vargas (25-2, 18 KOs) in stopping him in the sixth round in their rematch on Saturday night at the Tucson Convention Center.

The mismatch was stopped by the 34-year-old Vargas' corner after the sixth. With the exception of the second round, the fight was one-sided as Berchelt landed 293 punches in the six rounds. The Varags corner stopped the fight.

"I did what I said I was going to do in the right but I want to thank Vargas because he is a true Mexican warrior," said Berchelt. "He gave me my first opportunity at a world title so it was only fair that I would give him a shot to redeem himself and win the title back. The corner did the right thing to save him from more punishment."

In the preceding fight, Emanuel Navarette defeated Isaac Dogboe in a 12th round TKO for the WBO junior featherweight championship.
