TUCSON, Ariz — Malia Martinez and Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza combined for six hits and four RBI and Taylor McQuillin pitched a complete game as Arizona Softball defeated Ole Miss 5-2 in game one of the NCAA Super Regional at Hillenbrand Stadium.

"Anyone at any moment can make big things happen, so it doesn't always have to be a big bomb," said Martinez. "Today, a lot of it was played on the ground which was huge for us."

"It's always nice to go out and have a two run lead, and its nice to have a cushion with another run, and I think I got stronger because my team got stronger," said McQuillin.

The Wildcats fell behind 1-0 and then 2-1 before scoring 4 unanswered runs in front of another sold-out crowd and big-game atmosphere.

"We settled down and got some key hits," said head coach Mike Candrea. "I thought Taylor got stronger as the game went along, so we'll take it and get ready for tomorrow."

Game two of the best of three series is on Saturday. Arizona is looking to advance to the Women's World Series in Oklahoma City for the first time since 2010.
