Two University of Arizona recruits will likely never step foot in Hi Corbett Field after being selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft.

Pitcher Matt Liberatore went number 16 ot the Tamp Bay Rays. He's a 6'5'' left hander who attended Mountain Ridge High School. His best friend, infielder Nolan Gorman, was taken number 19 by the St. Louis Cardinals. Gorman went to Sandra Day O'Connor High School.

Both players are likely to turn professional given the large signing bonuses that they would receive for being first round picks.

Wildcat outfielder / first baseman Alfonso Rivas is expected to be the first UA player to be selected on Tuesday, when the second round begins. Rivas hit .352 with 7 home runs and 52 RBI. Catcher Cesar Salazar is also expected to be taken in one of the early rounds.
