Arizona Football hit the practice field on Friday with first year head coach Kevin Sumlin and returning quarterback Khalil Tate.
"You look back at last year, there were six or seven or eight freshmen playing on defense," said Sumlin. "You know they say the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores. We have a young team but a lot of guys that have played."
Freshmen Colin Schooler, Kylan WIlburn, and Tony Fields II earned Freshman All-American honors.
Schooler, who made a game saving interception last year in a double overtime win over Cal told reporters at Pac-12 media day, "I felt like last year I led by example and was too quiet," Schooler said. "That's not enough at this level and my position."
Tate comes off a season in which he won four consecutive Pac-12 offensive player of the week awards in October, but he must prove he can be productive over an entire season. His weapons include running back J.J. Taylor and wide receiver Shun Brown.
The Wildcats season begins at home on September 1st against BYU.
