The eighth annual Vamos a Tucson Mexican Baseball Fiesta will have a hometown flair.
This year, the University of Arizona Wildcats will participate, as UA will play Hermosillo in the nightcap of a Thursday doubleheader.
'I think any effort we can have to be part of a good community event its great," said head coach Jay Johnson. "It's a great experience for our players to play against in professionals in a charged up environment."
The event will feature four Mexican teams as well as the future stars from the Kansas City Royals.
The Wildcats are permitted to play two fall exhibition games that don't count towards their 56 game schedule. They will also play Cal State Fullerton in Mesa on October 28th.
Arizona could see a familiar face behind the plate. Former catcher Cesar Salazar is a Hermosillo native playing in the Houston organization, and just needs permission from the Astros to play in the October 4th game against his old team.
"He's one of my favorite players of all time," said Johnson. "It will be weird seeing him in a different uniform but we're proud of what he's doing in the Astros organization."
The Mexican Baseball Fiesta will be played October 4-7 at Kino Stadium.
