MCSO says 76-year-old Peter Fisher has been found "awake and alert" after going missing from a hike on Wednesday afternoon. He has been transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation, according to Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
According to MCSO, Fisher went hiking with a group of friends he was known to regularly hike with on Wednesday afternoon. After reaching the Black Mesa Trail and Second Water Trail, Fisher went back to a vehicle with the keys due to fatigue, MCSO says.
When the rest of Fisher's group returned to the parking lot following the hike, they were unable to locate Fisher near the trail head and subsequently called MCSO for assistance.
At 3:24 p.m., a member of the hiking group received a message from Fisher stating he had somehow become lost on the hiking trail.
"Due to the unavailability of the MCSO helicopter, DPS and Phoenix PD provided helicopter assistance," MCSO wrote in a press release. "MCSO responded with five ground teams to conduct search operations and provide containment for the area Peter is believed to be."
Fisher was discovered "awake and alert" on Thursday afternoon after MCSO, Phoenix PD, and DPS conducted search operations to find the missing hiker.
