On July 11 officers and members of Tucson Fire responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a bicylicst near East Fort Lowell Road and North Mountain Avenue.
As crews arrived, they located an adult man bicyclist with obvious signs of trauma.
The man was immediately transported to Banner UMC with life-threatening injuries. The adult woman driver was not injured.
Detectives from TPD responded to the scene to continue the investigation. Detectives collected evidence and interviewed multiple witnesses.
Detectives were able to determine the bicyclist was southbound on Mountain Avenue and stopped on the northwest quad for a red light at East Fort Lowell Road.
The light for north/south traffic turned green and the bicyclist began to proceed southbound on Mountain Avenue.
Police say the driver of a silver 1997 Honda Accord was westbound in the median lane on Fort Lowell Road and ran the red light and struck the bicyclist.
TPD says the bicyclist was wearing a helmet and a reflective vest at the time of the collision.
No arrests or citations have been issued at this time as police are continuing to investigate.
Police were notified on July 18 that the bicyclist succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The bicyclist has been identified as 65-year-old Roger Haar.
Haar was a Laboratory Manager at the UA.
