ORO VALLEY, Ariz (KGUN9-TV) - Who is killing wildlife in Oro Valley? It's not nature at work. It's man-made poison.
When you look at the combination of natural land and development in Oro Valley it's easy to see how wildlife and people could come together there.
Someone managed to poison some of the animals that live there.
Owls and javelina are a natural part of our desert world.
But poisons are not. Arizona Game and Fish believes poison killed two javelina and one owl in the Canada Del Oro Wash.
Mark Hart from Game and Fish says, “Two dogs were the tip-off.
"We received information Tuesday from Oro Valley PD about two sickened dogs, one of which subsequently died. The vet confirmed the dogs were poisoned. When we investigated we found two dead Javelina, an owl and a pack rat in a wash near where the dogs were. We suspect those animals were poisoned."
Game and Fish is offering a five hundred dollar reward for information that helps arrest whoever put out that poison.
Hart says it's not clear whether someone meant to poison the dogs and wildlife or whether they were trying to control pests and put out the poison improperly in a way where the animals were able to get it.
The law says pest control poisons should be on your property only, in small amounts. If the poison is outside it should be in a bait box that keeps larger animals from getting it.
And remove the carcass of any animal the poison has killed because it can kill any animal that eats it.
