Three Tucson-area hospitals rank as best hospitals in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. -- U.S. News has released its list of 2019-2020 best hospitals in the nation, plus those in each state and metro area. Two facilities in Tucson and one in Oro Valley have made the list.

According to the study, U.S. News looks at hospitals that offer a full range of services and that have ranked or rated high in specific areas.

TheTucson Medical Center ranked 7th in Arizona for its high performance in five procedures/conditions. While not nationally ranked, TMC had high performance in procedures and/or conditions related to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), colon cancer surgery, hear failure, hip and knee replacements. U.S. News also ranks it first in Tucson.

Oro Valley Hospital came in 10th in the state, but is not nationally ranked. U.S. News says the hospital's performance in procedures/conditions related to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), hip and knee replacements were high. It is ranked second in Tucson, according to U.S. News.

The third area-hospital that ranked best in the state, is Northwest Medical Center-Tucson. U.S. News ranks it 14th in Southeastern Arizona and third in Tucson. Performances in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and knee and hip replacements were said to be high.

Arizona did have one hospital that ranked nationally in U.S. News' Honor Roll. The Mayo Clinic in Phoenix tied for 18th in the top 20 list.
