TUCSON, Ariz. - A train hit a truck near Sahuarita Friday morning, sending the truck's driver to the hospital
According to Tim McMahan of Union Pacific Railroad, the wreck was near South Nogales Highway in the 9 a.m. hour.
The driver was trying to cross the tracks at an unmonitored, gated crossing in front of the southbound train south of the Nogales Highway and Old Nogales Highway intersection.
While the truck was crossing the tracks, the truck stopped and couldn't clear the tracks. The train, which was going 30 miles per hour, hit the back of the truck, spinning it around.
The train conductor brought the train to a stop within a quarter mile of the wreck.
Railroad personnel inspected the track and train, which were apparently not damaged.
According to Union Pacific, the driver was transported to a Green Valley hospital.
No one on the train crew was harmed.
