TUCSON, Ariz. — A 21-year-old man has died after a crash involving him and a vehicle on the southside Sunday morning. Tucson Police say officers were called to the 700 block of West Drexel Road for a report of a serious injury collision around 1 a.m..

During an investigation, TPD says Isaiah Suazo had just left a house party on foot and was crossing Drexel Road with a group of friends. Detectives say they were not in a crosswalk. As the group entered the roadway, a vehicle stopped to let them cross, but a second vehicle swerved to avoid rear-ending the stopped vehicle. The driver then attempted to stop for the group, but Tucson Police say the driver hit Suazo as he was crossing.

Police say the driver of the vehicle that hit the pedestrian stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. TPD says the driver was impaired. A search warrant was obtained and a sample of the driver's blood was drawn to determine his level of impairment. Those results are pending.

TPD says evidence at the scene also indicates Suazo was impaired as he crossed the street.

This is an ongoing investigation and no charges or citations have been issued at this time. Charges are pending lab results and the completion of the detective’s investigation.
