TUCSON, Ariz. — Sun Tran is taking steps to sanitize its bus fleet as the Coronavirus pandemic continues across the world.

Sun Tran, Sun Van and Sun Link vehicles are all being cleaned using an emergency preparedness protocol, according to the company. It's an updated protocol that is based on original plans used for contagious diseases in the past like H1N1, SARS and the Bird Flu.

Since last week, Sun Tran says it has had regular routines for cleaning and disinfecting bus fleets that meet industry standards and have ramped up the cleaning and disinfection efforts.

According to the company, some of the main cleaning and disinfecting components are as follows:

  • Disinfect all high-use, common areas on the vehicles with an industrial grade disinfectant as part of our nightly cleanings. Every night, all handrails, grab bars, poles and pull cords on all vehicles are disinfected.
  • Distribute hand sanitizer to all drivers. Drivers have received hand sanitizer bottles, and will receive wipes to disinfect their work areas, especially the steering wheels, as needed.
  • Sun Tran is also planning disinfecting routines at the transit centers.
