TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson-area Catholics will return to remote worship.

In a message posted on the Diocese of Tucson website, Bishop Edward Weisenburger wrote that public worship was suspended as of Wednesday, July 1.

Weisenburger wrote that the suspension would last about four weeks. It will be reviewed daily and could be shortened or lengthened.

"Members of the medical community — who daily place themselves at great risk to serve us — are now telling us that we are at a crisis point," Weisenburger wrote. "I believe that we owe it these noble men and women to do our part in bringing the pandemic under control."

After shutting down in-person services March 31, the Diocese resumed limited public Mass in late May.
