TUCSON, Ariz. - A Friday demonstration was planned to protest the prison system.

Anti-prison group Mass Liberation Arizona promoted the "Free Them All Car Rally," which was scheduled at 1 p.m.

According to a flyer, the protest was meant to prevent conditions in prison that could lead to mass coronavirus infections.

Participants were encouraged to meet at the Shell station at 7710 S. Wilmot Road, and to stay in their cars to preserve social distancing.

Advocates have encouraged Gov. Doug Ducey to release some of the state's 42,000 prisoners (click here for the Arizona Department of Corrections & Reentry Coronavirus Dashboard) to control coronavirus risk.
