Heavy snow possible in Southern Arizona Wednesday and Thursday

TUCSON, Ariz. - Heavy snow is possible in high-elevation regions in Southern Arizona Wednesday and Thursday, the National Weather Service says.

The service issued a Winter Storm Watch Tuesday. Between 8 and 14 inches of snow are expected at elevations above 7,000 feet, and between 12 and 22 inches of snow are expected above 8,000 feet.

Snow is expected to fall in the White Mountains, the Galiuro and Pinaleo Mountains, the Chiricahua Mountains, Dragoon and Mule and Huachuca and Santa Rita Mountains, the Santa Rita Mountains, Catalina and Rincon Mountains.

The snow could make travel difficult. Initial snowfall could be a mix of rain and snow Wednesday.

Areas as low as 6,500 feet elevation could receive snow Thursday,
