TUCSON, Ariz. — The Tucson Police Department is investigating a homicide and alleged home invasion that happened late Monday night.

According to a Tweet from Sgt. Peter Dugan with TPD, it happened at 5505 S. Mission Road.

Dugan says police got a call to the Mission Tierra Apartments around 10:40 p.m. While they were at the complex, officers were flagged down by another group in the parking lot because someone needed help.

TPD says officers found a man who had been shot. They gave him first aid until the Tucson Fire Department arrived, but the man died at the scene. The man has been identified as 32-year-old Rene Orantez Jr. TPD says he had gang affiliations and the man was at the complex as part of an alleged home invasion with another suspect.

After further investigation, police were able to identify 19-year-old Lorenzo Yslava as the second suspect.

Police say there was a physical altercation between Orantez and one of the victims during the robbery. At some point during the altercation, Yslava fired a handgun and struck Orantez. He then left the scene that evening.

On Thursday, Ysalava was located and arrested on the Pasqua Yaqui Reservation with the help of US Marshals. He was booked into jail for first degree murder.
