Arizona softball is the overall number two seed in the NCAA Tournament and will host a regional this weekend at Hillenbrand Stadium.
New Mexico State, South Carolina, and St. Francis of Pennsylvania are the other teams in the regional. It’s an NCAA-record 31st consecutive appearance in the postseason, and the Wildcats would host a super regional the following weekend.
The first game will be between South Carolina and St. Francis (PA) at 4 p.m. MST (ESPN) on Friday. Arizona and New Mexico St. meet at 6:30 p.m. (ESPNU) in the nightcap. Friday's winners will play at 2 p.m. on Saturday while Friday's losers will play at 4:30 p.m. in an elimination game. The loser of game 3 and the winner of game 4 will play at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Sunday's regional championship will begin at 4 p.m. with the if-necessary second game set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Wildcats streak of 31 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances dates back to 1987, which was Mike Candrea's second season at Arizona. Arizona has been an initial-rounds host 19 times, and Super Regionals six times. If the bracket holds up as seeded, the Cats would host No. 15 Baylor in the super regional next weekend in Tucson.
