Salpointe football advances to state title game

Salpointe has advanced to the Class 4A state title game with a 49-27 win over Peoria Sunrise Mountain at Ironwood High School.
     
The Lancers were down 14-0 in the first quarter when running back Bijon Robinson scored from 61 yards out and 2 yards out to tie the game. 
Quarterback Rodrigo Nieto then rushed for a 13 yard touchdown to give Salpointe the lead. 

Salpointe then went to the passing game. Touchdown strikes to Mario Paidoo and Andrew Jacobs extended the Lancer lead. Padilla then ripped off a 59 yard touchdown run.

The Lancers will play Scottsdale Saguaro in the state title game.

Meanwhile, in Class 5A, Cienega's undefeated season came to an end with a 37-34 loss to Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep in a game held at Mountain View High School.

Class 3 A Pusch Ridge Christian plays its semifinal game on Saturday against Benjamin Franklin. That game will be played at Salpointe.
