TUCSON, Ariz — Scottsdale Saguaro defeated Salpointe, 42-16, at Arizona Stadium to win the class 4A state championship.
The Lancers scored their touchdowns on a 36 yard Bijon Robinson run, and on a Devin Green pass to Dae Han Chang. But, the Sabercats from up north answered back with a second quarter 90 yard kickoff return fro a touchdown by Marqui Johnson, and a third quarter 78 yard TD pass from Tyler Beverett to Will Shaffer.
"They're a great team, very talent and well coached," said Salpointe head coach Dennise Bene. "Their offensive line did a tremendous job and these games often get won at the line of scrimmage. I'm just really proud of our kids."
The loss was the Lancers only defeat of the season.
