The Pusch Ridge Lions are only 2 years removed from a state title....in 2015 the Lions went 13-1, and capped their best record in program history with a championship. Jerry Harris' team looks to do the same on Saturday against Casteel. Both teams enter the title game with a 13-0 record.
About 7 or 8 sophomores on that 2015 squad, are now seniors for the Lions. And would love to go out with another championship. Head coach Jerry Harris says the senior class is very special this season, and they've changed the culture of the program. They've also been playing football together since they were 5 or 6 years old.
This state title game has extra meaning for quarterback Christian Fetsis. Fetsis' season was cut short in '15 due to a thumb injury though he continued to play on the defensive side of the ball. Fetsis says it was tough watching another QB lead his team to a championship from the sideline. But he's now ready to lead the charge on Saturday.
The Lions will face Casteel at Campo Verde High School in Gilbert on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30pm.
