TUSCON, Arizona — Arizona freshman guard Kerr Kriisa has left the Wildcats to return to his home country of Estonia to compete with the Senior National team, the University of Arizona says in a statement.

Kriisa has not been cleared to compete for the Wildcats by the NCAA Eligibility Center as part of the standard initial certification process. The school says it is continuing to work with the NCAA to resolve the matter.

Kerr will compete in a pair of qualifying games that count towards FIBA Eurobasket 2022. The Estonian national team is scheduled to play Russia on Nov. 28 and North Macedonia on Nov. 30.

Arizona was set to host Northern Arizona on Wednesday to begin its season. That game was canceled. Kerr will miss the next two scheduled games against Grambling State and UTEP.

“Given the situation, this is a great opportunity for Kerr,” Arizona head coach Sean Miller said in a statement. “We wish him the best of luck in the competition and look forward to his safe return to Arizona.”
