Former Wildcat Gabe York used the NBA D-League All-Star Break as a chance to return to Tucson. He signed autographs and memorabilia at Mountain View Sports on Speedway Boulevard. The event was free for fans.
York is playing for the Erie BayHawks, where he is averaging sixteen points per game. York started out the season playing professionally in Italy.
"For me, personally, its been the best thing for me to go to Erie," said York. "I've gotten back on my game, and how I used to play basketball. And, I have couple of teams are looking at me. So, it's been a good fit for me."
York was a four-year Wildcat who had a solid career after a freshman season in which he played sparingly. He was asked what shooting advice he'd given to Wildcat freshman Lauri Markkanen, who hasn't scored in double figures in his last four games.
"Just trust what you've done for 18 or 19 years. Just trust what you've done and your shot. Have confidence. Confidence is the biggest thing."
York said he thinks this year's Wildcat team can make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
"You know, you have that whole team healthy, when everyone is ready to play and ready to go, a team like that under Sean Miller who's a great coach. You have athleticism. You have the bigs down low. Chance has come a long way. They had a little slip up against Oregon. But for the most part, I think coach is going to put them on the right track to be really successful in the tournament."
