PHOENIX - Former University of Arizona point guard Jason Gardner has resigned from his head coaching position at IUPUI after being arrested early Monday morning for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, WRTV in Indianapolis reported.

The decision to step down was a "mutual agreement," the IUPUI Assistant Athletic Director Ed Holdaway told WRTV.

According to Hamilton County Jail, Gardner was arrested at 5:10 a.m. Monday in Fishers, Indiana and charged with OWI.

Gardner, 38, played for the Wildcats from 1999-2003 where he averaged a career 14.6 points per game. He was a three-time First-team All-Pac-10 selection and helped guide the Wildcats to the 2001 NCAA national championship game.

Gardner has served as the head coach at IUPUI in his hometown of Indianapolis for five seasons and compiled a 64-93 coaching record.
