Denise Mueller, the world's fastest woman on a bicycle, will be the honoree of the 34th El Tour de Tucson.
A news conference was held at Casino del Sol just two days after Mueller broke the record in Utah, as she rode more than one hundred and forty seven miles per hour.
"We congratulate Denise, great job!" said Richard DeBernardis, the founder and president of Perimeter Bicycling. "Next year, we'll get to watch her set the overall record!"
"It's been less than 48 hours since my record run," said Mueller. "And its been this crescendo of realizing that I did this. I'm hoping that the opportunity to be an honoree is going to help inspire other people. I'm just blown away."
Perimeter Bicycling announced a new activity to mark the kickoff to El Tour. The Pima County El Tour Loop the Loop, which is scheduled for Saturday, September 17th, is a casual ride open to individuals of all ages and abilities.
