NOGALES, Ariz. (KGUN) — While businesses are slowly closing in Nogales, one is defying the odds — opening up and thriving during the pandemic.
‘B Pure Juices’ is the first business of its kind in Nogales, and owner Brooke Granados says she’s thankful to have the community's support on this journey.
“I do feel like it’s a dream come true,” she told KGUN9.
It’s a dream Granados says has been a long time coming. It took her nearly two years to develop menus and recipes. Then, before she knew it, it was November 2020, and we were in the thick of the pandemic.
“Honestly just felt like it was now or never and...kind of just took the plunge,” Granados added.
So, she took a leap of faith and opened her doors.
The foot traffic followed, with more than 100 customers walking in every day.
“We hit record sales this week, with our cold press juices, our bowls and the smoothies as well. With the health concerns and COVID, and everyone trying to stay safe and healthy, I felt it was an advantage on our end,” she said.
While Granados has been successful, she's faced challenges. On opening day she noticed the payment system was down, so she quickly got to work.
“It was very stressful. I think [the] first impression is a big deal, but I was able to post it on social media. I had a sign made and put it at the front door, just advising customers we could do cash or Zelle only,” she told KGUN9.
So Granados’ journey has become a blend of troubleshooting and taking in the success.
“This is our tajin mango, it’s one of our popular smoothies that we have. In regards to our bowls, our classic Acai bowl and our mermaid bowl are one of our most popular ones as well,” said Granados.
Her next goal — is eventually expanding her hours of operation to meet the demand.
“I definitely feel proud. I think that it’s a good example for my daughters. They’re seeing that, you know, [when] you put hard work into something, from the ground up, it definitely pays off,” she added.

“Make that commitment. Take that chance. You know it’s...it could be worth it,” Granados told KGUN9.
