TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN9) — Many small businesses have tried their best to adapt and rebound from a pandemic that continues to be an everyday reality. A Tucson-based shoe store is one example of the perseverance in our community.

The owner of Alan's Shoes says they offer a wide variety of name brands in comfort and athletic footwear, but he says it's the selection and customer service that really sets them apart.

"Old fashioned sit and fit service,” said Owner Alan Miklofsky.

Miklofsky has grown his business in Tucson for over three decades, but has never faced a hardship like the pandemic.

“Most of our customers are older customers and they are sheltering at home, and I can't blame them.”

Miklofsky says they have pivoted and adapted their business for pandemic challenges. They have set up social distancing markers and check the temperature of store employees at the start of every shift.

“We do offer curbside delivery, we'll ship, we'll even drop off at their home if we need to,” he said.

While many things are different these days, Miklofsky says people will always need shoes.

“Some of them need new slippers because they've been wearing slippers at home. Some of them need athletic shoes because they still do their walking exercises.”

He's hopeful Alan's Shoes will continue to be a good fit for customers in Tucson through the pandemic and for many years to come.

“We've got a few more months here to go and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but we all have to work together to make sure we get there safely.”
