Blitz, a K-9 officer for the Tucson Police Department, has returned to work after being stabbed multiple times by a suspect on May 15.

On May 15, Blitz was assisting the SWAT team as they were attempting to arrest a suspect allegedly involved in a bank robbery.

When the suspect ran from the SWAT team, Blitz chased him for one block before apprehending him, Tucson Police said in a Facebook post.

"During the apprehension the suspect stabbed K9 Blitz in the neck multiple times," the Facebook post reads. "Despite being wounded, Blitz refused to give up and held onto the suspect until SWAT Officers could catch up and detain the suspect."

Blitz was taken to the VCA Valley Animal Hospital and Emergency Care Center where he received care for his injuries.

Following Blitz's injuries, the Tucson Police Department has been providing regular updates on the K-9 officer's injuries. Officer Doyle, Blitz's handler, kept everyone in-the-loop as Blitz healed and prepared for work once more.

Blitz was forced to take roughly two weeks off of work, but according to a new post on the Tucson Police K9 Facebook page, Blitz is back and ready for action!

"This incident is a reminder of how dangerous this job can be for our Officers and K9’s," one Facebook post read. "Please join our unit in giving K9 Blitz a 'Good Boy.' After all... that’s all he ever asks for."
