Summer is officially here and that means outdoor activities, fun in the sun and of course, day drinking. You can go all-out with the bottomless mimosas and crash early, or, take a more nuanced approach, and feel great the next day. Kristina Guerrero and health expert Dr. Anthony Balduzzi have three tips to day drink like a pro.
1. Prepare Your Body
Before you crack open that beer you need to prepare your body for the onslaught of alcohol. You need to focus on good hydration, like water with a little sea salt because you'll be losing a lot of it on your boozy adventure. Any kind of green juice drink will do the trick because they have a lot of these essential B vitamins and amino acids that your liver needs to process the alcohol efficiently.
2. Pick the Right Drinks
If you want to maintain low alcohol then mixologist Conner Barrett of the Mountain Shadows resort in Scottsdale, Arizona has a tasty, low alcohol spritzer recipe that will keep you upright.
Mix up 3 parts prosecco, 2 parts Aperol and then one part soda or a splash of soda. You can't forget one part Pamplemousse which is a delicious grapefruit liquor.
If beer is your thing then there are a couple of low alcohol choices from Bud and Michelob.
Bubbly fans rejoice because low alcohol pear Bellini’s can be your BFF with healthy benefits. Drinking pear juice before you consume alcohol can actually reduce your hangover by 20 percent.
3. Eat the Right Food
A high protein meal the night after drinking and the morning after is key, along with hydration. Proteins are broken down into amino acids and your liver needs a couple key amino acids to detoxify. If you need pain relief the next day you'll want to skip the ibuprofen. Certain medications like Advil and Tylenol can actually be very hard on your liver. Aspirin is a lot better.
